FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

My child has never wrestled before, would wrestling be a good fit?

Wrestling is an awesome sport with many great benefits for your child. It teaches a certain type of toughness and discipline. Wrestling provides wonderful developmental skills as well as sportsmanship and respect for their opponent. Some of the skills one can acquire from wrestling include: self-reliance, self-confidence and self-discipline. A wrestler will also learn to develop sportsmanship and respect for their opponent. Every wrestler will lose at least once (if not many times!) in their career and this teaches them to always be respectful and be a good sport. Losing will also teach the wrestler to always remain humble.

What does a TYPICAL WWC season look like?

A typical wrestling season has practice two nights a week. K-3 Intro to Wrestling is 5:30pm-6:30pm Monday and Wednesday nights at Prospect Hill in Waltham, starting December 2nd. Grades 4-8 Competition team is 6:30-8:00pm Tuesday and Thursday nights. *2nd Graders who have been members of WWC program are able to participate on the competition team. WWC participates in the NER wrestling league which includes scrimmages, meets and tournaments with some of the most competitive town based programs in the state.

In addition to NER events, WWC will participate in select tournaments and meets throughout the winter season. Typical tournaments are on Sundays and meets will occur during the week, usually in lieu of practice one day.

I’m not sure my child will like wrestling, what’s your refund policy?

We offer a full refund minus the uniform fee if your child changes their mind within the first 2 weeks (14 days) of the start of the season. After 2 weeks, you will not be eligible for a refund.

Can my daughter wrestle?

Yes! We have a great group of amazing girls already on our team and we encourage more to try wrestling out. Parents, please check out this great article by American Olympian Helen Maroulis: “Why Girls Should Wrestle” In our program, girls will be paired with girls as much as possible during practice, but please note they will be wrestling boys during meets and competitions.

My kids play other winter sports, and may not be able to make all practices or competitions. Can they still participate this season?

We understand that there are other winter sports going on that our wrestlers participate in. We encourage your child to make as many practices and meets as they can, as wrestling is an individual sport, so them not being there will not directly effect the team. But we do believe that practices and competitions are vital to becoming a better wrestler so do ask you try to make as many as you can!
